On Thursday, September 25, 2003, AeA New England hosted a successful Government Marketplace event with a thorough review of where government IT dollars are being spent and what future opportunities exist for technology businesses. The Federal session featured Dan Chenok, one of President Bush's top E-Government Officials, and David Litman, the senior Procurement Executive for the Department of Transportation and featured an impressive group of presenters. The afternoon session focused on state and local opportunities for tech companies.

In September 2003, AeA New England presented a two-part series on intellectual property. Entitled Protecting and Valuing Your Intellectual Property, this successful series offered a comprehensive two-part analysis and review coupled with ample networking opportunities.

On June 17, 2003, AeA hosted an HR Breakfast Roundtable on the topic of Removing the Benefits Blindfold: Communicating the Total Benefits Package at AeA Member Company, Softrax in Canton, MA. On May 2, 2003, AeA held its 4th annual update on Keeping Your Company Trade Compliant, hosted at Agilent Technologies in Andover, MA. The audience learned about the latest changes and challenges in import and export regulations.

On April 2, 2002, sponsored by the Malta Development Corporation and hosted by Lionbridge Technologies, attendees of "Going Global" Cost Effectively: Opportunities, Challenges and Lessons Learned walked away with knowing how to reach global markets faster, better and cheaper, release products in multiple languages simultaneously, manage their newly formed international subsidiaries for maximum return, and leverage technology to manage global content.

Gray Areas in Compensation, Leaves & Layoffs: What You Don't Know CAN Hurt You! was the topic of an HR Breakfast Roundtable on February 7, 2002.  Attendees learned valuable legal information concerning the pitfalls of layoffs, shutdowns and furloughs, vacation accruals, compensation for those on intermittent leave, and exempt versus  non exempt overtime. Keeping Your "A" Players: Retaining and Developing Your Top Performers
This event was received very high marks from program participants. Hosted by PRI Automation on December 13, 2001, members learned about retaining top performers, particularly after a downsizing. New ways to address effective compensation plans – beyond stock options, how to develop career tracks for top performers, and tips for getting buy-in from senior management for these new approaches.  Speakers were: Deb Titus, Managing Partner, Human Capital Solutions, Manchester, NH and  Tom Wilson, President, The Wilson Group, Inc.

Hedging Against Higher Insurance Costs: Strategies for Today's Tough Market
Sponsored by Marsh Advantage America and hosted by MAPICS, Inc., this seminar took place on September 27, 2001 in Woburn, MA.  Participants learned how to weather the impending storm of rising insurance costs, better manage their insurance budgets and get more for their insurance dollar.

What CEO's Need to Know: Challenges on the High Tech Horizon for 2002
On August 22, 2001 area CEOs were invited to have dinner with Bob Bigony, President of the North American Region of Motorola and incoming AeA Chairman, and Bill Archey, President of AeA.  Participating CEOs discussed some of the policy challenges facing the high-tech industry both in Washington and in the state houses. Data from Cyberstates on the New England high-tech industry was also shared and discussed.

Three high tech leaders from New England were among a group of industry CEOs who
flew to DC to attend a meeting at the White House with President George Bush, Ambassador Bob Zoellick, and Commerce Undersecretary of Trade Grant Aldonas on legislation granting trade promotion authority to the President.  This important meeting was one step in the long process that led to passage of this important legislation.

Facing the Economic Slowdown: New Trends in Human Resources
AeA's HR Solutions Breakfast received high marks from participants. Held on May 17, 2001 and hosted by BOS Corporation, the event provided an excellent forum to learn how New England companies are coping with recent economic challenges and to learn from the speakers what pitfalls could be avoided. Speakers were: Judy Malone, Esq., Partner and Chair, Labor and Employment Department,  Palmer & Dodge, Boston, MA and Tom Wilson, President, The Wilson Group, Inc., Maynard, MA.
