Event Summary

On November 13, 2003, AeA hosted an HR Breakfast roundtable on HR Legal Smorgasbord: Tips and Advice on Today's Legal Issues at AeA Member Company, Brook Automation in Chelmsford, MA.

Mike Rosen, Partner of Foley Hoag, LLP, opened the roundtable by reviewing the current trends in anti-retaliation claims. He addressed how the harassment claims of the 90'es have been replaced by an increase in retaliation claims. Also Sarbanes-Oxley covers retaliatory action against employees who assist investigations, and Mike gave advice on how your company can prevent or protect itself from retaliation claims. Mike went on to the issues of wage and hour which has become the big employment law battleground of the present due to high-profile class action lawsuits. Finally, he ended his presentation by discussing the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and how to be in compliance.

Kristina Rost, Partner of Rost and Maged, shared her expertise in the field of immigration law. She provided the attendees with an overview of the H-1B, the criteria required for applicants and  the acts the temporarily increased the H-1B visa cap. She went on to discuss the controversies surrounding and the current statistics of the H-1B visa.

This AeA roundtable provided an excellent opportunity for member company senior executives to meet and learn about how current HR legal issues in an informal, intimate setting. Special thanks to Brooks Automation for hosting this event.
