Event Summary

On July 11, 2003, AeA presented Practical Insights on Doing Business in China hosted at member company BTU International, Inc. in North Billerica, MA. The program featured speakers from AeA and member company, Photronics, Inc. and addressed the trade and investment opportunities for U.S. high-tech companies.

Ron Pawelski, Director of Operations, BTU International, Inc., welcomed attendees to BTU offices and provided an overview of BTU and their work in China.  Next, AeA's Tim Bennett, Senior Vice President International, presented some key economic data on China's trade and discussed the economic and political impact of SARS.  Dan Brody, Director of AeA's Beijing office, then offered information on the high-tech sector's current performance in China. This was followed by a presentation by Dan Del Rosario, CEO of Photronics, Inc., who discussed his company's experiences in setting up operations in China, highlighting some of cultural and business differences that pose challenges for American firms entering this market. The program ended with comments by Dr. Jeffrey Chu, a native of China and member of BTU International's Board of Directors, on how best to approach the Chinese market.

This program provided an excellent opportunity for member company senior executives to learn more about doing business in China in an informal, intimate setting.  Special thanks to BTU International, Inc. for hosting this event.
