Daley's technology push targets private sector
For decades, Chicagoland has
been a leading economic center in the United States. To ensure the region continues to
have a strong economic platform for the future, Chicagoland is initiating a strategy for
growth in the "new economy." The goals are to provide a robust portfolio of
growth options and to establish Chicagoland's position and reputation as a leader in the
next wave of growth in the knowledge- and technology-based industries of the new economy.
The AeA Midwest Council was selected by Mayor Richard M. Daley as the key industry
partner to move forward the wireless component of Chicago's technology and economic growth
plan, as described in the recent McKinsey & Co. study.
We are partnering with World Business Chicago, the
Metropolitan Planning Council and others to develop
a wireless implementation plan for the second phase of Chicago's CivicNet project. The $ 320
million phase one of CivicNet will install the most extensive fiber infrastructure in the
nation and bring high-speed communications to every neighborhood in Chicago. Phase two
will address the wired and wireless connection solutions for both public and private
applications. To get involved in
this exciting project, contact Dennis
Sienko, Midwest Council Executive Director.
