As part of AeA's national education agenda, AeA MT
States Council continues to grow its education committee in an effort
to advance science,
technology, engineering, and mathematics education (STEM) in the Rocky
Mountain Region. The Education Committee works to support STEM
education initiatives in the Rocky Mountain Region to improve
education opportunities for our residents and to build a
highly-skilled workforce.
The success of the region's high-tech community
is dependant on the education and skills of generations to come.
The
AeA MT States Council Education Committee has raised thousands of dollars for
scholarships and provided contributions to education organizations within the
Rocky Mountain Region. The Education Committee will select four
education organizations that have proven their sustainability and impact on STEM education in
the Mountain States region. The Education Committee is proud to
have chosen Math Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) for its first
partnership.

The AeA Mountain States
Council Education Committee has chosen MESA (Math,
Engineering, Science Achievement) as one of our partners to
advance education in the Rocky Mountain Region. For over 26 years,
Colorado MESA has produced hundreds of trained technological
professionals through its work with disadvantaged and underrepresented
students. Today, MESA is recognized as one of the country's top
programs in producing mathematics and science professionals, with an
emphasis on African American, American Indian, Mexican American and
other underrepresented Latino American students.

Volunteering with MESA:
MESA holds several
events throughout the year. We need volunteers for each event to
act as facilitators, judges, and support staff. MESA's upcoming
event:
2007 SHPE/HENAAC/MESA/CU MEP
Summer Camp
August 1-4, 2007
University of Colorado at Boulder
Colorado MESA and the University of Colorado at Boulder
Multicultural Engineering Program (MEP), in conjunction with SHPE/HENAAC
present the 2007 SHPE/HENAAC Summer Camp, sponsored by IBM. The
camp is a four-day residential program intended to motivate,
encourage and inform incoming Hispanic 9th and 10th grade high
school students about the educational and career opportunities in
math, science, and engineering. Hosted at the MEP Office at the
University of Colorado at Boulder, the summer camp participants
will reside in the university residence halls to fully partake in
the living-learning experience. Participants will attend college
prep and career workshops, tour the university, engineering
facilities and science labs conducting state-of-the-art research,
conduct exciting math, engineering and science activities and
experiments, and participate in mind-challenging mini-competitions
for prizes and awards presented at the Awards Luncheon. On the
last day of the camp, parents will be invited to attend workshops,
the awards luncheon and closing ceremony.
Student Benefits
Exposure to state of the art engineering labs, engineering
professionals and the College of Engineering at CU Boulder;
Opportunity to be selected to attend the national SHPE Conference
and HENAAC in October. 6 student participants (3 SHPE and 3 HENAAC)
will be selected at the end of the camp to attend the conference,
all expenses paid;
