Industry Adds 21,400 Jobs
Nationally, Cyberstates 2008 shows that the high-tech industry
added jobs for the third consecutive year. Tech industry employment
totaled 5.9 million, after adding 91,400 jobs in 2007. This is on top of

AeA Silicon Valley/Northern CA Council
delivered our 5th highly successful Mastering Leadership Skills workshop.
This has become the workshop for AeA member companies and prospects to
send their supervisors and/or managers to get a broad, yet detailed,
overview of key soft skills needed to successfully manage teams; such as,
communication styles and applying that information to everyday management
skills such as coaching and conflict resolution. Stay tuned for the

On Thursday, March 20th, over 20 AeA Silicon
Valley/Northern CA Council member and prospect companies attended How
Actions by your Foreign Subsidiaries Can Lead to Criminal Liability in the
U.S.. This event was sponsored by White & Case, and featured White &
Case attorney Anna Han and litigator Fernando Aenlle-Rocha.
Together, they fielded various questions from high-tech General Counsels
such as the often blurry line between what is perceived as legitimate
business entertainment and a bribe and who is deemed a government official
in foreign countries.

The Silicon Valley/San Jose (SVSJ) Business
Journal hosted Chris Hansen, AeA President and CEO at their 2008 BizMix,
an annual business and community networking event. James MacGregor,
Publisher of the SVSJ Business Journal, formally introduced Hansen to an
audience of business and legislative leaders. Hansen shared his
plans for the AeA including the recent re-organization and expansion of
the AeA State Government Affairs Program.

AeA's CEO Chris Hansen and the AeA Silicon
Valley/Northern CA Council hosted the PCAOB to meet with key AeA member
company CEOs and CFOs to discuss The New Auditing Standard. AeA
received positive feedback from both our member companies and the PCAOB
about the value of this event. Silicon Valley companies were also
invited to provide their comments on the Securities and Exchange
Commission's Advisory Committee on Improvements to Financial Reporting's
public meeting on March 13th and March 14th at the University of
California - San Francisco.

partnership with Allen & Overy presented an update on the latest
developments in China and European RoHS and WEEE. Over 70 attendees
received updates on from AeA Europe Managing Director, James Lovegrove, as
well as key attorneys from Allen & Overy on topics ranging from RoHS and
WEEE to REACH and enforcement trends.
