AeA Midwest State Government Affairs
Committee (GAC): In cooperation with AeA's extensive grassroots policy
program, AeA's Midwest State GAC focuses on educating both our members and
our area legislators on the potential outcomes of state legislative
movements and their impact on high-tech. The committee works to help shape
public policy in the Midwest region, to enhance a healthy business climate
for the high-tech industry and to raise the visibility of AeA and its member
companies. Key legislative issues include: Tax, Environmental/EWaste,
RFID, Homeland Security, Broadband, Outsourcing, Privacy/Security, and
Economic Development.

January 1, 2007: AeA Expands State Policy Resources in Midwest Region
AeA's Midwest Council is pleased to announce that we have contracted
with a firm, The Roosevelt Group, to assist in representing technology
industry priority issues before the Illinois General Assembly and executive
branch of the State of Illinois. AeA launched it’s Midwest State Government
Affairs Program in early 2005, and continues to address high-tech business
issues in multiple Midwest states. AeA’s Midwest Council is committed to
providing the necessary resources to effectively and consistently support
the high-tech industry in Illinois and throughout the Midwest region. This
new resource, combined with the involvement and support of our member
executives and AeA staff will provide a powerful voice for the high-tech
industry. We expect an active year in the legislative arena at the state and

March 5, 2007: AeA Midwest Council member
executives met with Illinois House Republican Leader, Tom Cross, to
discuss a number of critical state legislative issues facing the
high-tech industry in Illinois. 2007 already marks one of the most
active years in recent history for Illinois and potentially harmful

March 17, 2006: (Washington, DC) On
March 8th members of AeA's Midwest Board participated in a fly-in to
Washington, D.C. to lobby Illinois Congressional leaders and the SEC on
critical issues facing the high-tech industry. Members met with the
offices of Representative Henry Hyde, Representative Ray LaHood,
Representative Rahm Emanuel, Representative John Shimkus, SEC
Commissioners Paul Atkins and Annette Nazareth and members of the PCAOB.
Among the issues discussed were US Competitiveness, Highly-skilled Visa

January 23, 2006:
Members of AeA's Midwest Executive Board met with Congresswoman Melissa Bean to
discuss issues of concern to the Illinois high-tech industry, including,
education, a greater emphasis on math & science in K-12, SOX 404, immigration,
the R&D Tax Credit, IP protection, the rising cost of health care, and a general
discussion on how to enhance the high tech sector in Chicago. AeA's meeting with
Congresswoman Bean was part of an ongoing effort to raise the visibility of high
